Hope and Light Community Welfare was founded in 2004 with the intention to support the destitute and the socially excluded in Sir Lowry’s Pass Village and surrounding areas such as Lwandle and Nomzamo. As a low-fee independent school, we receive limited government support. Our goal is to change the perception that our children’s and Youth education, and future prospects are pre-determined by the challenges, realities, and disadvantages of their daily environment and life. Engaging youth in environmental protection creates a direct impact on changing youth behaviors and attitudes, but influences their parents, relatives, and families and the wider community.
As an independent school in marginalised, poverty-stricken and socially excluded townships, with over 40 % unemployment, our target groups are not positioned to contribute significantly to the quality of education they receive. We therefore heavily rely on sponsorships and funding to provide our students with access to high-quality education that ensures that they are able to reach their full potential.

Cause Highlights
Since our founding in 2004, Hope and Light Community Welfare has grown from a small initiative into a beacon of hope in Sir Lowry’s Pass Village and surrounding areas. What we are proudest of is how far we’ve come as an organisation—from humble beginnings to a thriving, impactful community institution.
Despite receiving limited government support as a low-fee independent school, we’ve transformed countless lives through quality education, care, and empowerment. Our growth is visible not only in numbers, but in the stories, achievements, and engagement shared on our social media platforms.
We are particularly proud of how we’ve challenged and changed the perception that a child’s future is defined by poverty, unemployment, and social exclusion. By engaging youth in education and environmental responsibility, we’ve fostered positive change that extends beyond students to their families and the broader community.
Thanks to dedicated staff, generous sponsors, and a clear mission, we’ve created opportunities where there were once only obstacles—and that is our greatest achievement.
