Thuma Mina Teaching is the vision of a South African team with a heart for greater and more equal access to quality education.
Thuma Mina Teaching is a non-profit company that produces peer-reviewed video-lessons for grades 8 and 9 that are aligned to the South African curriculum made available to educators and learners alike, free of charge. The video-lessons Thuma Mina Teaching produces are designed to be a tool that can be used by pupils themselves to pursue academic success, as well as by teachers who can apply it during lessons to improve pupils’ learning experience. Due to the impact of the nationwide lockdown in response to the Covid-19 pandemic, schools are now under immense pressure to cover months of work in a short period of time.
All of our video-lessons are produced in English as well as Afrikaans. To gauge the quality of the lessons, please view a sample lesson here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bCbB9WsdcBQ
The largest expense Thuma Mina Teaching faces is that of video-editing as each lesson costs a minimum of R2 000 to edit. Other costs include content development, filming, filming equipment, and social media marketing as a dissemination tool. A lesson thus costs in the order of R4 000 to produce. This is a small cost when seen in the light of the fact that, nationally, South Africa has over 900 000 learners in each of these Grades.
