Disinformation spreads rapidly and effortlessly, and the rise of disinformation has become an alarming global phenomenon. Misleading narratives, fake news, and conspiracy theories have the power to manipulate public opinion, polarize societies, and undermine democratic processes. To combat this growing threat, Phambano Technology Development Centre NPC in partnership with DFRLab, and TechSoup Global Network have come together and organised a Countering Disinformation Masterclass webinar to empower individuals with the tools to recognise, debunk, and counter disinformation.
The Countering Disinformation Masterclass webinar occurred on 2 August to delve into the roots of disinformation, its impact on individuals and society, and effective strategies to combat and expose it. Attendees gained insights and practical knowledge to become more discerning consumers of information.
The Countering Disinformation Masterclass webinar had the incredible Professor Anton Harber, Robyn Porteous, Nomshado Lubisi Nkosinkulu, Dominika Potkanska, and Chelsea Ndlovu. Our online event informed and educated the attendees about countering disinformation, showcasing local actions, and building cohesive and inclusive communities. By equipping participants with the necessary knowledge, skills, and networks, this event catalysed a more informed and resilient society.
