Bolo is an Android app developed to aid children in Grades 1 to 5 to learn to read confidently – anytime, anywhere, using their own voice<\/strong>.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The app works offline<\/strong> and uses speech-based technology to encourage children to read aloud – just the way they naturally do – making it an engaging way to learn to read. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The helpful in-app reading buddy, Diya<\/strong>, also encourages them by providing positive reinforcement when they read correctly and helps out by giving suggestions when they don\u2019t.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

How does it work?<\/strong> <\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Read Words <\/strong>: Children can tap on any word to hear it pronounced. When they practice reading a word, the app will show them if the word was read correctly by making it green.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Understand Words<\/strong>: For non-native speakers of a language, Diya explains the meaning of a word or the sentence in the native language on tapping for help.\u00a0Languages supported at the time of writing this article: English, Hindi, Marathi, Bengali, Urdu, Tamil, Telugu, Portuguese, Spanish<\/em>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Read With Diya<\/strong>: Diya can read the entire sentence, highlighting each word as it\u2019s read so that the child can follow along.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Proactive Feedback<\/strong>: The app tracks the progress on the sentence and proactively offers support if it detects that the child is struggling.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Choose from a large variety of engaging stories:<\/strong> The app comes preloaded with a large collection of engaging & carefully selected stories, with new stories added over time. All the reading material on the app is completely free!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Personalised for each child:<\/strong> Multiple children can use the same app, and track their progress separately. Over time the difficulty level of recommended stories adjusts to their reading skills.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
