It is also a space for the more than two billion users to freely express themselves, and to feel empowered to communicate without being a target for abuse.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Unfortunately, there are people\nwho abuse this \u201cprivilege\u201d and use it to harass, abuse, stalk and bully people\nonline.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">As users, it is our responsibility to keep our profiles clean and safe so that we don\u2019t become targets of offenders.&nbsp;Below are reminders of how to keep safe on Facebook. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<!--more-->\n\n\n\n<h5 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Do\u2019s:<\/h5>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Familiarize yourself with Facebook privacy shortcuts and settings. <\/li><li>Learn how to recognize sensitive content and behaviour and how to report.<\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n<h5 class=\"wp-block-heading\">5 Simple rules to stay safe\nonline:<\/h5>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Never share your password<\/li><li>Think before you post<\/li><li>Adjust your privacy settings and review them often<\/li><li>Only accept friend requests from people you personally know<\/li><li>Report things that look suspicious<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h5 class=\"wp-block-heading\">What to do if you\u2019re being bullied, harassed or abused by someone on Facebook:<\/h5>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Unfriend the person and make sure that only your Facebook\nfriends can contact you through Facebook chat or post on your timeline\n(Settings)<\/li><li>Block the person and this will prevent the person from adding\nyou as a friend and viewing things you share on your timeline.&nbsp; They will not be able to find you on Facebook\nnor will you see them. <\/li><li>Report the person or anything abusive posts they have posted <\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The most important thing is to be\nable to recognise bullying and harassment and put a stop to it immediately.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Remember <\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Don\u2019t retaliate.&nbsp; Most\nbullies or abusers are looking to you for a reaction so don\u2019t give them one.<\/li><li>Don\u2019t be silent.&nbsp; Reach\nout to a trusted person, a close friend, family member, teacher, counsellor who\ncan give you help and support.<\/li><li>Document the bullying.&nbsp;\nPrint it or take a screenshot of it in case you need to share it with\nsomeone at a later stage or need it as evidence. <\/li><li>Report to SAPS<\/li><\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The intention of Facebook is for people to share their experiences, connect with friends and family and build communities.
