{"id":500,"date":"2020-04-03T12:48:32","date_gmt":"2020-04-03T12:48:32","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.phambano.org.za\/uncategorized\/introducing-family-link\/"},"modified":"2020-04-03T12:48:32","modified_gmt":"2020-04-03T12:48:32","slug":"introducing-family-link","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.phambano.org.za\/staging\/introducing-family-link\/","title":{"rendered":"Introducing Family Link"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>The Family Link app from Google helps parents stay in the loop as their child or teen explores on their Android device, and lets parents set certain digital ground rules for their family.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>First, a child\/teen will need a compatible device (<a href=\"https:\/\/families.google.com\/familylink\/compatible-devices\">see which devices work with Family Link<\/a>). Then, parents can start by downloading Family Link onto their own device (Android or iPhone).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If a child\/teen already has an account, Family Link will walk their parent through linking their account to their child\u2019s account. As part of that process, the child\/teen may also need to download the Family Link (Child\/Teen) app on their phone to complete the process of linking the accounts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Parents can also use Family Link to create a Google Account for their child under 13 (or the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/support.google.com\/accounts\/answer\/1350409\">applicable age in your country<\/a>). Once complete, children can sign-in to their device with their new account.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Once the accounts are linked, parents can use Family Link to help them do things like keep an eye on screen time and manage the content they use.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Guide your child to good content online using Family Link:\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>View their activity \u2013 not all screen time is the same.\u00a0Help your child make healthy decisions about what they do on their device, with activity reports showing how much time they\u2019re spending on their\u00a0favourite\u00a0Apps.\u00a0<\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\" start=\"2\"><li>Manage their\u00a0Apps \u2013 handy notifications let you approve or block\u00a0Apps your child wants to download from the Google Play Store.\u00a0 You can also manage in-app purchases, and hide specific apps on the device\u00a0\u00a0<\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\" start=\"3\"><li>Feed their curiosity\u00a0&#8211; it can be hard to figure out what\u00a0Apps are right for your child, so Family link shows you teacher-recommended apps that you can add directly to their device.\u00a0\u00a0<\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\" start=\"4\"><li>Keep an eye on screen time &#8211; set\u00a0limits &#8211;\u00a0it&#8217;s\u00a0up to you to decide the right amount of screen time for your child.\u00a0 You can also set bedtime for their\u00a0supervised\u00a0devices to help them find a good balance.\u00a0\u00a0<\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\" start=\"2\"><li>Lock their device \u2013 whether it\u2019s time to play outside, have dinner or just have&nbsp;family&nbsp;time, you can remotely lock a supervised device whenever you feel it\u2019s the time.&nbsp;<\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\" start=\"5\"><li>See where they are &#8211; it is helpful to be able to find your child when they\u2019re on the go.\u00a0You can use Family Link to help locate them\u00a0if\u00a0they are carrying their device.\u00a0<\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">For more information on Google\u2019s Family Link: <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/families.google.com\/familylink\/\" target=\"_blank\">https:\/\/families.google.com\/familylink\/<\/a>\u00a0<\/h3>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Family Link app from Google helps parents stay in the loop as their child or teen explores on their Android device, and lets parents set certain digital ground rules for their family.
