As a community, we are drawn to service and to live out our commission, to be the hands and feet of God. Recognizing the importance of both giving and receiving, we pour back into our community the gifts we have received.

We have been organizing fundraising events of different kinds since our inception in 1999. These fundraising activities revolve around different causes and usually have a short term benefit. This time, we want to organise long term programs and perform a daily feeding program.

Many children from a school in Lenasia South, called Lenasia South Secondary School are living in extreme poverty. We were shocked, yet inspired to find out that a few learners share their 2 slices of lunch to other small groups of children. Some groups were at least 7 to 10 learners.

After engaging with these learners we were devastated to be told that many of them are lucky to receive one meal a day… and we could see the truth in that by their obviously undernourished bodies. Unfortunately, this school does not qualify for the government feeding scheme program, because it is classified as a fee-paying school.

The problem is that many of these children come from broken or abusive homes. They live with their grandparents, single parents or elder siblings because they are either orphaned or abandoned. Some of them do not qualify for the government social grants and even if they do, the monies are so little that it can only support them for a short period of time. As a result, 60% of the children are exempted from school fees.

After being inspired by these few “Samaritan” learners, our organisation decided to implement a school feeding program called “Food 4 Thought”. Initially, we planned to provide lunch packs to 150 children from the Lenasia South Secondary School on a daily basis. The past few months have been magical for all of us here at SRBM. The lunch program was a tremendous success. We have been delivering lunch to the needy and underprivileged children on a daily basis.

Unfortunately, this is not enough. Due to the recent land invasions in Unaville, the number of learners requiring lunch has increased to 800. At this moment, we are unable to help the additional children without the help of outside funding and assistance.

The Sri Raam Bhajan Mandiram is a Hindu based Non-Profit Organisation founded on 14 Feb 1999.
